Play is the work of child

Tanya and Tanmay are proud parents of Sophie and Ryan. They always believed that, ‘Play is the work of the child.’

Sophie, is now an 8-year-old young child. She simply loved to play when she was a toddler. And her parents always ensured to help her engage in the best play possible. Tanmay is a responsible father and always kept researching about how he can engage her daughter in the play.

Sophie used to invest approximately 6 to 7 hours of play each day. One of her favourite play was Sensory Roundabout. Her parents maintained a separate play schedule apart from the routine time table. They strongly believed that every minute invested in the play is by no means wasted. It contributed to her daughter’s overall development.

Research states that children who play are happier. Sophie’a parents understands that every child is unique. Thus, they use the equipment and manipulative in their own creative ways to explore different possibilities. Sophie has matured parents and they understand that children need assistance and a safe environment while engaging in play. Thus, Tanya and Tanmay strongly recommend every parent to participate in their children’s play supporting them to learn better.

Tanya and Tanmay have some pieces of evidence to share from Sophie’s play. Let us read them here:

1. Creating their own small world not only helps them to learn but also allows them to correlate with real-life situations. For example, Sophie was playing with all her transport vehicles. She had creatively designed roads using the clay. She placed vehicles in a queue on the road which shows that Sophie carried some awareness about the road rules. This could have resulted from her observation while traveling with her parents in the car.
2. Pretend play allows children to form self-identity. If you want your children to learn about cultural norms, you should allow them to participate in pretend play. Sophie loves to pretend to be caring elder sister and pretends that the doll is Ryan, her younger brother.
3. The play also leads to social interaction. On one of the play dates Sophie’s parents observed that she enjoyed playing with her friends. She also guided them with the rules set and also cooperated with others when required.

Our children enjoy all forms of play, be it exploratory play, modeled play, pretend play or social play. Each kind of play is a mere opportunity for young children to develop physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally.
